Black and White Wedding attire

Black & White (E!)

Weddings are always fun, however the road getting there may be a challenge.  Today’s Take Me Away Tuesday topic is about Weddings. January Skyy will advise you on what is appropriate to wear to a wedding, whether you are a guest or a bridesmade.  Rule #1 is usually “NO WHITE” however times are changing, as it is becoming more acceptable to wear to weddings.  TV personality Kim Kardashian married Chris Humphries a month ago.  It was said that she asked all guests to wear one of two colors.  The two colors chosen were Black or White.  Since the bride allowed others to wear the color white to her wedding, perhaps that color may not be as taboo as it once was. January Skyy recognizes this trend, however we will advise you to follow our rules below.

No White

No White

Rule #1 NO WHITE - We suggest guest of the bride and groom play it safe.  Do not become the center of attention in a negative way by dorning the color white or anything remotely close to it.  Give the bride the respect that is owed to her, by allowing her to be the only person during the entire event wearing the color white.

Rule # 2 NO EXCESSIVELY TIGHT CLOTHING - Everyone should wear clothes that fit them nicely, however one should not come in excessively tight clothing.  By wearing an extremely tight or revealing outfit, you are unknowingly stealing attention away from the bride.  The attention you will receive however, will not be positive as other guest may begin talking about your attire in a negative way.  January Skyy is not in anyway advising a person to wear ill-fitting clothes, we are just advising you to retain from receiving any negative attention at the wedding, based on what you are wearing.

Rule #3 WEAR SOMETHING THAT PHOTOGRAPHS WELL - This rule speaks for itself.  Just because something may look nice in the mirror, does not mean it will photograph well.  One should always remember that pictures last forever, especially when they are living in someone else’s wedding album.  A few additional suggestions to help you with Rule#3 are, make sure your garments are pressed, steamed or ironed properly.  Wrinkled clothes are the first thing people notice about garments, so make sure everything is nice and smooth.  Another suggestion is invest in a tailor/seamstress. Spending a few dollars to get an outfit hemmed or taken in is reasonable and economical to anyone’s pocket.  Remember, a persons appearance is the first thing people notice, so make sure you are well put together.

Rule #4 WOMEN SHOULD WEAR DRESSES - Women are usually prefered to be seen in dresses when at weddings.  January Skyy is not saying that pants cannot be worn, however we suggest women either wearing a suit or female tuxedo.  A wedding is usually very traditional, so guests are expected to come accordingly.

Mens Tux

Rule #5 MEN SHOULD ONLY WEAR SUITS OR TUXEDOS - If a man is attending a wedding, he should wear a suit or tuxedo. Black, Navy Blue or Grey are the only three colors that should be worn. Men should not wear the color white, as rule # 1 applies to them as well.  Men are expected to wear ties or a bow tie to a wedding however, if the mood lightens up during the reception-you can remove your tie.

Follow the above rules and you will look amazing and respectable at any wedding you attend in the future.  Send us pics, we would love to see them :-)
